IMKTRO operates two scanning, passive microwave radiometers – HATPRO G5 (Humidity And Temperature PROfiler) and HATPRO G4 – from RPG, Radiometer Physics GmbH (Fig. 1). These devices are part of KITcube and are used worldwide in field campaigns (Fig. 2).

The HATPRO microwave radiometer is a ground-based remote sensing instrument for measuring atmospheric parameters. It utilizes seven frequencies in the K-band (22.24–31.4 GHz, water vapour band) along the rotational line of water vapor and seven frequencies in the V-band (51–58 GHz, oxygen band) along the oxygen complex. These measurements allow the derivation of temperature and humidity profiles as well as the integrated liquid water path (LWP) and the integrated water vapour (IWV).
